Head coach of Gambia U-20 team, Abdoulie Bojang has hailed his wards’ for the ‘extraordinary’ feat following  a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nigeria in the semi-final of 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Monday.
Adama Bojang’s early goal in the seventh minute settled the contest despite Nigeria’s dominant possession and the Young Scorpions manager is full of praises for his players following their superb display against the Flying Eagles.
“I am proud of my players who keep writing the history of our football,” coach Bojang said after the match.
“It is extraordinary, magnificent, satisfactory, and much more than that. We have scored 10 goals in this competition without conceding. We’re a small country which now plays in the tournaments.”
The WAFU-A runners-up and Senegal won all their matches without conceding a goal in the tournament. The Young Scorpions reached the semifinals of the U-20 AFCON in Mauritania two years before winning bronze.
“It is a deserved victory. We will fight for the title against Senegal,” Bojang continued.
“Senegal is winning everything right now. We must prevent them on Saturday.”
The Gambian side will next face neighbors Senegal in the final on Saturday, 11 March as both sides have similar records at the tournament with five wins without conceding any goal.
