By Monsurah Olatunji
Leicester City were without the services of Ashleigh Plumptre in defense when the Foxes slipped to a 8-0 defeat suffered at the hands of Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
After falling to a late defeat to West Ham United at Chigwell Construction Stadium a couple of weeks ago, the Foxes returned to Filbert Way for a tough meeting against leaders Chelsea.
To make the challenge even more difficult, City were without a number of key players, including Super Falcons defender who is a starter for the Foxes, Plumptre.
The club confirmed through their official website that manager Willie Kirk could not count on the services of Plumptre because she’s still recovering from a hamstring problem.
The 24-year-old featured in their last league game against West Ham United before the visit of Chelsea. The Foxes without the Nigerian in the squad have now suffered their biggest defeat of the season losing 8-0 to London.
Plumptre, however is set to return in January 2023 and will miss the trip to Liverpool on December 15. The club will then have to wait to see if she could fully recover from the injury before their first game of 2023 against Brighton & Hove Albion on January 15.
The unplayable Nigerian has played 720 minutes in eight matches in the Women’s Super League before her spell on the sidelines.
