By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Edo Queens Head Coach, Moses Aduku is confident that history can repeat itself with the winners of the previous editions of the Sheroes Cup going ahead to claim the league title.
The Benin City-based side edged Naija Ratels 1-0 to win their second Sheroes Cup in Abuja on Friday.
Bayelsa Queens and recently Delta Queens (2022) have won the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership after winning the women’s football pre-season tournament in Abuja which Aduku is confident his side can replicate such feat.
“I believe history will repeat itself,” Aduku told Nigeria football.ng
“By coming here and winning, by the grace of God, we will win the league and also win the cup.”
Moses Aduku’s side has not won the league title since inception despite their frequent good performance during the regular season and qualification for the season-ending Super Six.
Ending another long wait and clinching the Sheroes Cup after their third straight final appearance, a feat he sees as an opener to its titles.
“Honestly, we need the cup.” He continued.
“We have been going around looking for how we can win it. We thank God for the victory. It is a pre-season competition, and any time there is a trophy it is more than a pre-season. We thank God this is the first one we are winning for the new season.
We are using it as an opener to other trophies to come.
With the arrival of new players to the fold like Christy Obia, Goodness Osigwe, Peace Abbey, and Joy Jerry, amongst others, Edo Queens is using the pre-season tournaments to blend the team ahead of the coming challenges in the league and FA Cup.
“I think, I shopped for every department, from defence to attacker. I shopped to add to every good player we had for last season. We may not be perfect yet, but we go back as Becky Obaseki cup is calling us now, we work again and see how we can build up a team before the league begins.”
