Wolves cancel training after Tolu Arokodare refuses to leave pitch amid transfer uncertainty

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ preparations for the new season have been thrown into turmoil after training was cancelled when striker Tolu Arokodare allegedly refused to leave the pitch, prompting a strong disciplinary response from new head coach Cesar Peixoto.

The Nigeria international has now been omitted from Wolves’ squad for Wednesday night’s pre-season friendly against non-league Maidenhead United, as tension grows around his future at Molineux.

Training session abandoned after confrontation

The incident took place at Wolves’ Compton Park training base, where Arokodare was reportedly told he would not be training with the first-team group.

According to journalist Nathan Judah, the 23-year-old forward declined to comply with instructions to leave the pitch, leading to the entire session being scrapped.

“Understand Wolves training was cancelled yesterday following Tolu Arokodare’s refusal to leave the pitch when asked not to train with the squad,” Judah wrote on his social media account.

The club has not yet issued an official public statement, but the move to call off training underlines the seriousness with which the matter is being handled internally.

New manager moves to impose authority

Peixoto, who was appointed this summer following Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, is understood to have taken a hard line over the episode.

Sources close to the club suggest the former Portugal international is determined to establish clear standards of behaviour in the dressing room and to prevent any impression that players can dictate terms to the coaching staff.

The incident is reported to have escalated further on Tuesday, with additional security stationed at Compton Park to prevent Arokodare from entering the training facility while the situation is assessed.

Striker left out as future remains unclear

As a direct consequence of the disciplinary dispute, Arokodare will not be part of the travelling party for Wolves’ pre-season match at Maidenhead United.

The forward joined Wolves last summer from Belgian side Genk but now finds himself at the centre of growing speculation linking him with a move away following the club’s drop into the Championship.

Despite a mixed first season in England, Arokodare is believed to have admirers across Europe, with Fiorentina and Genoa in Italy and Turkish club Trabzonspor all reported to be monitoring his situation during the current transfer window.
