Yaya Toure praises Jay-Jay Okocha publicly ahead of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations

Former Manchester City player Yaya Toure has praised Austin Jay Jay Okocha’s exceptional creativity in shaping his perfect ideal African player ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast this month,
During an interview with Goal ahead of the tournament to be held from January 13 to February 11, the 40-year-old former attacking midfielder faced the challenging task of assembling his Ultimate African Footballer.
While selecting attributes for his ideal player, Toure expressed admiration for Okocha’s football intelligence during his prime years as well as Samuel Eto’o’s right foot, Kanga Akale’s left foot, Bakare Koni’s speed, Didier Drogba’s strength, and Jay Jay Okocha’s football intelligence.
The 49-year-old former Super Eagles captain is regarded as one of the greatest exports from Africa, being regarded as one of the greatest dribblers of all time and renowned for his mesmerizing displays on the pitch.
The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder scored 14 goals in 73 caps for the Nigerian national team between 1993 and 2006.
While Toure’s selections seemed fitting, it was his endorsement of Okocha that stirred reactions among fans, as Nigeria is set to face Ivory Coast in the group stage of the AFCON 2023.
However, the Ivorian midfielder noted that he was impressed by Okocha’s football acumen in his heyday.
“Okocha, I love Okocha in that period,” he admitted.
