Yemen’s Nasser Mohammedou channels Cristiano Ronaldo in Gulf Cup celebration
Yemen forward Nasser Mohammedou celebrated his equaliser against Bahrain by copying Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark celebration in a memorable moment during Gulf Cup 27.
Yemen had fallen behind when a well-constructed attack produced a perfectly weighted long pass towards Mohammedou, who wears the number seven shirt. He then beat Bahrain defender Hussein Abdulkarim with a skilful piece of dribbling, leaving the defender on the ground before striking a powerful shot into the goalkeeper’s left-hand corner.
The goal, scored in the 18th minute, brought Yemen level at 1-1 and prompted an enthusiastic reaction from the supporters.
Mohammedou ran towards the fans and performed Ronaldo’s familiar celebration, placing his hand on his chest before jumping and shouting. His team-mates then joined him, creating a scene that reflected Yemen’s determination to stay in the contest.
The Yemen supporters, many of them waving flags, celebrated wildly in the stands as their side secured an equaliser against a strong Bahrain team. Yemen’s players embraced in the middle of the pitch, underlining the importance of the result.
Al Kass shared footage of the goal on 30 September 2026, describing it as the moment Mohammedou made it 1-1 in the Gulf Cup 27 match between Bahrain and Yemen.
Ronaldo absent from Portugal training
Mohammedou’s celebration came as Ronaldo’s own situation with the Portugal squad attracted attention.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Ronaldo missed Portugal training for a third consecutive day. The latest development came only minutes after the team’s manager had confirmed that the captain would take part in the session in Copenhagen.
A Bola also reported that Ronaldo left Parken in the Danish capital on Wednesday in a car belonging to the Portuguese Football Federation. At that point, all of his team-mates apart from Francisco Conceicao had begun arriving on the pitch.
The contrasting scenes provided a notable backdrop to Yemen’s goal: Ronaldo was absent amid uncertainty around Portugal’s training camp, while Mohammedou used the Portuguese forward’s celebration after scoring a goal that earned Yemen a point against Bahrain.
