2023 Afcon: Super Eagles need the right mentality to excel – Tijani Babangida

By Saheed Afolabi
Former Nigeria international, Tijani Babangida says the country’s senior men national team needs the right mentality to emerge victorious at the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles ended their AFCON qualifiers with a 6-0 thumping of Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, with Victor Osimhen netting a hat-trick to finish the qualifying series as topscorer with 10 goals.
And the former Nigeria winger insists the team haven’t achieved their optimum best considering the array of stars at its disposal, stressing that said they needs a better teamwork to thrash their opponents in Ivory Coast.
“I want to believe the best is yet to come from the Super Eagles considering the quality of players in Jose Peseiro’s disposal,” Babangida told Complete Sports.
“Yes, we defeated Sao Tome 6-0 but I still believe the team is still shaping up and will be a force to reckon with at the 2023 AFCON.
“With the caliber of players that we have at the moment, the team just need the right mentality and understanding to be a tough nut to crack in Ivory Coast.”
Nigeria will be making its 21st appearance at the AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire scheduled to start on January 11 to February 13.
