Adebayo Adeleye has expressed his excitement following his debut for the Nigeria senior national team in a 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia, Liberia on Sunday.
The Super Eagles picked up a ticker for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) thanks to the saving prowess of Adeleye who guarded Nigeria’s goalpost in the encounter.
In the absence of suspended first-choice goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, the trio of Adeleye, Olorunleke Ojo of Enyimba, and Rivers United’s Victor Sochima were invited to camp while Maduka Okoye maintain his distance since getting the heat for their last AFCON exit.
The Hapoel Jerusalem shot-stopper conceded twice but received praises from fans as they can finally breathe a sigh of hope in the goalkeeping role since Vincent Enyeama retires.
Adeleye will hope to become a regular in the team after his impressive debut as he hopes to follow in the footsteps of former international and Super Eagles icon – Enyeama, who dazzled in the Israeli League in his time.
The 23-year-old took to social media to celebrate his competitive debut for the three-time African champions.
“Dream debut done and dusted. Thank you to everyone for believing in me & for the support,” he wrote on his Twitter handle.
