Rivers United goalkeeper, Victor Sochima has stated his desire to give his best to ensure Nigeria earn a victory over Sierra Leone in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers slated to take place on Sunday.
Following his stellar performance at club level, Sochima has been given a chance to prove his worth at the national team as he may likely be in goal against the Leone Stars.
The 24 year old shot stopper said he’s ready to give his best to ensure the Eagles win the game following his strings of performance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“I feel happy to be a part of the Super Eagles and I’m ready to give my best hopefully, I’m selected to play for the country against Sierra Leone,” Sochima told Afro Sport.
“The coach told us we are here to play so I am ready whenever I am called upon. Every player has his unique quality and the stadium we are going to play is familiar to me because I was opportune to play for Rivers United in that stadium during our CAF inter-club campaign so I’m aware of what the atmosphere can be like.”
A win for Nigeria will certify their place at the 2024 AFCON in Ivory Coast and Sochima stated the team will play to the coach instructions to get the job done on Sunday.
“I’m calm, we just need to adapt to any team we play against, so we just have to adapt quickly to the coach’s system,” he added. “It is not going to be a problem [against Sierra Leone], I can’t predict but we will play to win, no doubt it.”
Nigeria are second on the group A of the AFCON qualifiers with nine points from four matches.
