2023 ICMC Matchday One wrap: Greenfoot hold Eletu Queens as Imo Strikers win big in opener

The second edition of the Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup (ICMC) got underway in Asaba, Delta state capital on Monday.

In the first match of the tournament, Giant Empress defeated Castmog FC 2-0 to get the competition off to a winning start.

Ohuchu Agnes scored two goals in the second half to lift her side to a win in Group 1.

The second game of the first Matchday saw Papa Soccer Academy stunning the newly promoted second-tier Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Championship, Fortress Ladies 1-0.

Ojewunmi Mercy’s lone strike in the 42nd minute gave the Lagos-based side a slim win.

In Group 2, the official opening match between Delta Babes and Bravehearts ended 2-1 in favour of the former.

Two penalties in the first half from Ogwezi Faith settled the game both sides of Ramat Blessing equaliser for Bravehearts.

Phoenix Queens and Unification settled for a 0-0 draw in another Group 2 game while Bravehearts earlier recorded a 1-0 win over Moje Queens.

In Group 3, Greenfoot played out a goalless draw with holders, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens.

Imo Strikers recorded the biggest win of the day with a whooping 4-0 victory against Awka Angels.

Chidi Harmony became the first player to score a hat-trick in the tournament.

Oscar Precious had opened the scoring for the Owerri-based side before Harmony’s hat-trick.
