2024/25 NWFL Premiership MD 3 Review: Group A leaders share spoils as Bayelsa thrash Benue Queens

Edo Queens and Remo Stars Ladies played out a 1-1 draw in the star match of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership week three at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The clash of Group A leaders was a keenly contested one, as a foul inside the box resulted in a penalty for the Benin City-based side.

Esther Moses converted the penalty into the right corner in the additional minutes of the first half to open the scoring for the host.

Five minutes into the second half, Olamide Bolaji, who also scored in the previous week, leveled the scoreline.
The result ended both sides perfect start to the league after winning their first two games.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels ended FC Robo Queens’ perfect record with a 4-2 win for the Jewels of Rivers.

Ifeoma Polinus scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute, only for Kemi Adegbuyi to restore parity four minutes later.

Three goals from Aminat Folorunsho, Fasikat Adeyemo (own goal), and Peace Effiong in the first 20 minutes of the second half won the match in favor of Tosan Blankson’s side despite Chidinma Ogbuchi’s consolation for Lagos Landladies.

After two matches without a win, Adamawa Queens finally got their first victory with a 3-0 success over Delta Queens at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.
A hat trick from Omon Afensimi lifted the Fintiri Queens to a comfortable win.

Confluence Queens remained without a point after a 1-0 loss to Nasarawa Amazons in the North Central derby which took place in Anyimgba.

Olushola Shobowale’s 29th-minute goal separated both sides, ensuring that the Solid Babes returned to winning ways.

The Oriental Derby between Heartland Queens and Abia Angels ended in a 0-0 draw in Owerri as Obi Ogbala’s side finally picked their first point of the campaign.

In Lafia, Bayelsa Queens thrashed debutant, Benue Queens 5-1 as Chinwe Akabike, Ambless Ogbonnaya (brace), Vera Samuel, and Rita Uduakabong lifted the Prosperity Girls to their biggest win of the season.

Anastasia Emefo became the first player to score against Bayelsa Queens after the Yenegoa-based side kept clean sheets in their first two games.

In Ado Ekiti, Ekiti Queens also returned to winning ways after a 2-0 victory over Dannaz Ladies recovering from a 1-0 loss to Remo Stars Ladies in the South West derby.

Seun Fakunle and Tobi Sarafa scored in either half for Jacob Vandhi’s side.

In Abuja, Naija Ratels finally secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Ibom Angels.

The host had to come from behind as Ugobest Osuji opened scoring for the Uyo-based side.

Two late goals in the last 18 minutes of play from Glory Sunday and Tsebe Rita completed a comeback for the Abuja-based side.
