2024 CAF Awards: President Tinubu celebrates Nigerian football stars’ historic triumph

President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s football stars following their exceptional performances at the 2024 CAF Awards, where they dominated the prestigious event across several categories.

The President commended Ademola Lookman for being named the CAF Africa Player of the Year (APOTY), a significant achievement that highlights his outstanding contributions to the sport.

He also congratulated Chiamaka Nnadozie for retaining her title as the Best Goalkeeper in Africa, underscoring her continued excellence on the international stage. In addition, the Super Falcons were honored as the National Team of the Year, a testament to their relentless dedication and success.

Expressing his pride, President Tinubu stated, “These athletes embody the essential Nigerian spirit and represent the very best of our nation. Their victories bring immense joy and pride to all Nigerians. I am incredibly proud of them and confident that these accolades are just the beginning of even greater achievements to come.”

He continued, “Thank you for making Nigeria proud and for keeping our flag flying high. Your success inspires us all, and we look forward to seeing you win even more medals, both at home and abroad.”

This year’s CAF Awards mark a historic moment for Nigeria, with Lookman securing the Africa Player of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, who won the title in 2023.

Nnadozie’s triumph reinforces her status as one of the continent’s top goalkeepers, having also won the award last year.

President Tinubu’s remarks celebrate the incredible talent and hard work of Nigeria’s football stars, who continue to raise the bar for excellence in African sports.
