The winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) third-place playoff between Nigeria and Egypt will not receive their bronze medals immediately after the match.
Instead, medal presentations for the third-place finishers have been scheduled for Sunday, after the AFCON final between Morocco and Senegal.
As a result, whichever team claims victory in Saturday’s playoff will be required to remain on standby and travel from Casablanca to Rabat to take part in the official medal ceremony.
The third-place playoff is set to be played at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, while the final — and subsequent medal presentations — will take place in Rabat.
The arrangement means there will be no on-the-spot celebrations for the bronze medalists, with players and officials having to wait an additional day to formally receive their medals at the tournament’s closing ceremony.
