After a 0-0 draw with FC Masar in their second group game of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, the head coach of Edo Queens, Moses Aduku said it was a tough and wonderful game.
Both sides were not separated after 90 minutes which opened Group B ahead of the last group game where the Nigerian side faces holders, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies with their destiny in their hands.
They need to avoid defeat which will be enough to seal a place in the semi final.
“Wonderful game the two teams played. It was not the result we wanted as we wanted to win but sometimes you win some and lose. We did not lose but played a draw. We wait and go for the next game,” Aduku said during his post match reactions.
“Actually we believed winning this game will take us straight to the semi final before playing the last game but sometimes it is like this. So what do we do? We prepare for the next game but I think we will come back strong.”
While acknowledging that every teams at the competition are potential champions, Aduku opined that no team is indomitable.
“In the press conference fot the first game, I said the entire teams that are here are good to win the trophy and potential champions,” He added.
“Nobody is unbeatable. The team we are going to meet now lost their first game to this same team we drew with. Definitely we respect them outside the field of play for what they have done but inside the field of play, it is for 90 minutes and we are condemned to win.
“I think we need to find our scoring boot. Like today we had some scoring chances but could not take them. Sometimes football is like that. We will get our scoring boot on and do notice to the next game.
“Sometimes you will think you want to possess. If you are denied place to possess definitely you look to option B. Nothing went wrong with my team. We had our scoring chances but we did not score. If we had scored it, it would have been a different ball game. The opponents would have come out for us to play. They did not come out to play the way they came out against Sundowns. My team played well and to instructions. We were far ahead in terms of possession with 52. I think scoring was the only issue for today’s game.” He concluded.
A win or draw for Edo Queens in their last group game will ensure that holders, Mamelodi Sundowns bow out of the tournament if FC Masar (Egypt) also avoid defeat against Commerical Bank of Ethiopia FC.
