2024 National Sports Festival: Team Ogun beat Osun to women’s football bronze

Host of the 2024 National Sports Festival, Ogun State won a bronze medal at the ongoing competition after a 2-0 win over their South West neighbors, Osun State, in the third-place match of the women’s football event in Ikenne on Tuesday.

Two goals in the first half ensured that the host team women’s team secured a bronze medal at the Remo Stars Stadium.

Damilola Adeyanju opened scoring for the Gateway State in the fifth minute of play.

The goal gave them more impetus to surge for the second one which came before the end of the half.

Itunuoluwa Odeyiola doubled the advantage in the 40th minute to seal the win.

Efforts by Team Osun to salvage a goal or take the match into penalties in the second half proved abortive as Team Ogun smiled home with a women’s football bronze medal.

The gold and silver medals will be contested by Team Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), represented by the national U-17 team and Team Delta, at Moshood Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, later on Tuesday.
