Nigeria midfielder sensation, Debirah Abiodun is delighted to be part of the team that qualified Nigeria for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Playing her first game for Nigeria since the 2023 Women’s World Cup was a dominant figure in the midfield, winning tackles and linking defence and attack together effectively throughout the doubleheader clash against Cape Verde.
The 20-year-old starred for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup before receiving a red card with a minute left on the clock against Canada, and never got to feature again for the rest of the tournament.
She took to social media to express her happiness as they qualified for another edition of the continent’s showpiece.
“Privileged to be part of Nigeria’s qualifying journey to the Morocco 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations!,” Deborah wrote on X.
“Our collective effort secured the qualification, and now we’re geared up to showcase the strength and spirit of Nigerian football on the grand stage!”
Nigeria is the most successful nation in the history of the tournament since it became full-scale in 1998, winning 11 of the 14 editions so far.
