2025 AFCON Qualifier: Eguavoen eyes maximum points against Benin Republic

By Saheed Afolabi

Nigeria’s interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is focused on securing all three points in their upcoming match against Benin Republic.

The former international is determined for the Super Eagles to make a strong start against the Squirrels. Eguavoen emphasizes that Nigeria’s goal is to win both of their AFCON qualifying matches, and the players are well aware of what it takes to meet these objectives.

He acknowledged that the matches will be challenging, as all teams are vying for a spot in the AFCON finals. Despite recent disappointing results in the World Cup qualifiers, Eguavoen is confident that the Eagles are poised to return to winning form.

“Our objective is clear: to secure six points from both matches,” Eguavoen said, as reported by the NFF. “The players understand this and are committed to achieving it.

“The upcoming games will be tough, as no qualifying match can be taken lightly with every team aiming for the finals. However, we have discussed our strategy with the players, and we are all aligned in our approach.

“Starting with the match against Benin Republic on Saturday, our focus is solely on securing three points. We are not talking about revenge; our priority is to win this game and then aim for another three points in Kigali on Tuesday to strengthen our position for qualification.”
