2025 U-20 AFCON: Nigeria to face holders Senegal in quarter final

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Nigeria U-20 national team (Flying Eagles), is poised to engage in a crucial match against the reigning champions, Senegal, during the quarterfinals of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

This highly anticipated encounter is set for Monday at 1:00 PM and serves as the inaugural match of the knockout phase, promising an exhilarating showdown between two prominent forces in African football.

Senegal advanced to the quarterfinals following a convincing 2-0 win over DR Congo in their last Group C game, finishing second in the group with four points, narrowly surpassing DR Congo on goal difference.

Similarly, Nigeria concluded their Group B campaign in second place, amassing five points from three matches, trailing group leaders Morocco, who secured seven points.

As seven-time champions of this tournament, the Flying Eagles are eager to enhance their distinguished legacy with a compelling performance against the title defenders.

Conversely, Senegal is intent on maintaining their championship defense and reinforcing their status as one of the continent’s most formidable youth squads.

Both teams will face significant pressure, as the match not only offers a chance to reach the semifinals but also brings them closer to qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The anticipated clash is expected to be intensely competitive, with skill, strategy, and composure likely to be pivotal factors in what could become one of the tournament’s most significant matches.
