Nigerian midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin has disclosed that his invitation to Nigeria’s Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic came as a surprise.
The Rizespor attacking midfielder was a late addition to George Finidi’s team, replacing Nathan Tella, who had to excuse himself due to family reasons.
Olawoyin expressed his gratitude to the coach and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the opportunity and promised to make the most of it with an exceptional performance.
“It is amazing and I feel great about it. It’s a great privilege for me, which I will cherish for life,” Olawoyin said. “I didn’t see it coming, and it came as a surprise for me, but it finally came, and I have been looking forward to it.”
He added, “The Super Eagles are different because it’s all-around quality players; they come from everywhere and will make you better.”
Olawoyin had an impressive season with Rizespor, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in the recently concluded Super Lig season.
