2026 World Cup Qualifier: Finidi George optimistic of victory against Benin Republic

By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria head coach Finidi George is gearing up for the must-win clash against Benin Republic at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan.
The Super Eagles will face their West African neighbors on familiar ground, where they previously defeated Cameroon and Angola during the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Finidi is determined to approach the game with the right mindset and a winning mentality to overcome the recent disappointments. The former international stated that the team has corrected their mistakes and is ready to soar high against the Squirrels.
“We are going to approach the game with every seriousness. The match against South Africa is gone,” Finidi said at the pre-match press conference. “We have learned from it, and we just have to see how we can replicate the fantastic second half we had against South Africa. I think we have a chance.”
The Super Eagles have the opportunity to turn around their fortunes with a victory against Benin Republic in Abidjan.
