23/24 NPFL MD3 Wrap: Remo Stars stun Bayelsa, Enyimba edge Akwa in Aba thriller

Remo Stars picked the only away win of the week after a 2-1 victory over Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenegoa as the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League continued with seven games on Sunday.

Goals from Olamilekan Adams and Alimi Sikiru had given the Sky Blue Stars a 2-0 lead before Okorie Ekeson reduced the deficit in the 88th minute after Oluwaseun Solomon was sent off for the host in the 15th minute.

In Aba, Enyimba pipped Akwa United 3-2 thanks to goals from Gabriel Innocent, Mbaoma Chijioke, and Alalibo Somiari.

Kufre Ekong and David Philip scored for the Promise Keepers but was not enough to halt the win of the hosts.

Elsewhere, Sunday Megwo’s 31st-minute goal lifted Abia Warriors to a 1-0 win over Kano Pillars in Umuahia.

While in Enugu, Rangers edged Niger Tornadoes 2-1 with goals from Joel Odoh and Godwin Obaje.

Baahiru Usman pulled a goal back for the visitors but could not avoid defeat at the nest of the Flying Antelopes.

Also in Ibadan, Shooting Stars came from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win after Aliko Bala had given Gombe United the lead in the tenth minute.

Malomo Taofeeq scored a brace in the second half to help the hosts to another home win.

And Rivers United and Kwara United settled for a 0-0 draw in Port Harcourt. The same scoreline was recorded in the clash between Sporting Lagos and Doma United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Tanimu’s 15th-minute penalty was all it wrote for Bendel Insurance which earned a 1-0 win against Plateau United in Benin City on Saturday.

In Akure, Heartland FC forced Sunshine Stars to a 1-1 draw after Patrick Nwogbaga’s goal canceled out Michael Olalusi’s opener.

Yusuf Ibrahim missed a penalty that should have given Sunshine the lead in the 87th minute.

Katsina United and Lobi Stars played out a goalless draw.

At the end of the Matchday, Bendel Insurance with six points topped the log despite having an outstanding match against Enyimba FC.

Enugu Rangers, Abia Warriors, Shooting Stars, and Remo Stars have six points, while Sporting Lagos and Lobi Stars have five points each.

Doma United, Rivers United, Sunshine Stars, Kwara United, and Katsina United earned four games apiece.

Bayelsa United, Enyimba, Gombe United, Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United, and Kano Pillars amassed three points.

Heartland FC with two points while Akwa United languishes in the bottom position with a point.
