‘Super Eagles need leadership ahead of Africa Cup of Nations’ – Dahiru Sadi

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee, Dahiru Sadi has called members of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team to take up the responsibility of ensuring that they present a d represent themselves for the country in the next African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He advised the team to bring all their top games to the fore at the tournament in Ivory Coast.

As the three-time African champions appear to be struggling ahead of the tournament with leadership, Sadi says the Super Eagles must rise to the occasion at the competition and be up to the challenge to make sure that they get amongst the best on the continent of Africa.

“The problem with the team is not the motivation or organisation but the players,” Sadi told Brila FM.

“They need to be determined to help Nigeria. I think we can beat any team.

“With what they are doing now, it is clear that the team lacks leadership. It is high time they realize that this leadership is not by age. Even a small boy can be a leader.

“The most important thing is experience. The NFF should do something about it. We need leadership in that team.” He concluded.

Meanwhile, two friendly games have been scheduled for Super Eagles against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burkina Faso ahead of next year’s AFCON.

The date for the two encounters has not been confirmed but should be held in early January 2024.

Jose Peseiro’s side will face Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea in Group A of the 2023 AFCON.
