Fernabache right-back, Bright Osayi-Samuel revealed that he had food poisoning but has declared his focus on Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations showdown against Ivory Coast on Thursday.
The 26-year-old came on in the 83rd minute, replacing Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina for the final seven minutes of their opening game against Equatorial Guinea last Sunday.
The wasteful Super Eagles are billed to face the hosts who got their campaign off to a perfect start thanks to a 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau and the defender is upbeat about his side putting up an improved display.
“I got food poisoning, today I’m a bit weak, but I should be okay,” Osayi-Samuel told media.
“I believe in everyone on this team and I think the next game will be a reaction.
“I believe that with the squad that we have, the game against Ivory Coast, we will do our best, when we play against those big teams that’s when we do better we know what it takes and everyone is confident.
“If you look at Egypt, how they lost their first game and got to the final last AFCON. So for me, I think of course, we want to win but we shouldn’t put our heads down too much. A big nation like us is expected to win every game.”
