AFCON 2023: ‘No love lost’ – Stanley Nwabali sends heartfelt message to South Africans

Stanley Nwabali has sent a message of ‘love’ to South Africa following his impressive but heartbreaking performance in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), semi-final clash on Wednesday night.
The thrilling and enterprising semi-final encounter ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time as Nwabali conceded for the first time since their opening match, forcing a dramatic penalty shootout.
All eyes were on South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, following his remarkable performance in the quarterfinals, but it was Nwabali who stole the spotlight.
The Nigerian safehands, who currently plays his club football with South African side, Chippa United saved two penalties in the shootout against the Bafana Bafana to qualify Super Eagles for the final.
In a display of sheer brilliance and sportsmanship, he extended his heartfelt sentiments to South Africans and their ardent supporters.
The 27-year-old was awarded the Man of the Match award for his impressive display.
“No love lost at all. I still love South Africa as much as their fans love me,” Nwabali posted on his Instagram.
“This is a game I’m born to play. A night to remember!!! I felt every bit of it!! Brick by brick and dreams are coming true.
“My name is Nwabali Stanley Bobo and I love this team with all my heart. Safe hands.”
