Cyril Dessers bemoans Rangers’ Scottish Cup final loss to Celtic

By Wale Mustapha

Nigerian striker Cyril Dessers expressed his disappointment following Rangers’ Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic on Saturday.

The Gers lost 1-0 to their arch-rivals in a closely contested match at Hampden Park, marking a bitter end to a challenging season in which Rangers also lost the Scottish Premier League (SPL) title to Celtic.

Dessers, who had to be substituted in the 25th minute due to injury, promised that the team would draw positives from the loss to motivate their efforts for the next season.

“Everybody is devastated. We were close and we played a good game. It wasn’t an easy game and if you lose it that way in the end, then obviously it hurts,” Dessers told Football Scotland.

“It’s been a heavy season, that’s for sure, in all kinds of ways. It’s easy to all go down now in energy and everyone needs to take a rest.

“But to see them [Celtic] celebrate today and 10 days ago gives me a lot of energy to go again this summer.

“It maybe seems weird to say now, but I cannot wait for pre-season to start again and to do better than this season. I’m looking forward to that.”

Dessers’ words reflect a determination to bounce back stronger, as Rangers aim to reclaim their dominance in Scottish football next season.
