NNL Super 8: Nasarawa United and Beyond Limits close to NPFL promotion

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nasarawa United and Beyond Limits Football Academy are on the brink of promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following the second group games of the 2024 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 in Enugu.

Nasarawa United secured their second group stage win with a 2-1 victory over Sokoto United in the Northern Conference.

The Lafia-based side had to come from behind after Adama Samuel opened the scoring for Sokoto in the eighth minute. Anas Yusuf equalized for the Solid Miners in stoppage time of the first half, and Afeez Bankole netted the winner four minutes into the second half.

This win places Nasarawa United at the top of the Northern Conference log with a perfect six points, ahead of El Kanemi Warriors and Sporting Supreme, both with three points. El Kanemi Warriors revived their promotion hopes with a 2-1 win over Sporting Supreme FC.

In the Southern Conference, Beyond Limits maintained their lead with a 1-1 draw against Ikorodu City. Kparobo Arierhi put the Ikenne-based side ahead in the fifth minute, but Toheeb Ayejigbe equalized in the 45th minute. Beyond Limits’ goalkeeper, Emmanuel Olisa, crucially saved a penalty that could have given Ikorodu City the win.

Additionally, Madiba FC bolstered their promotion chances with a 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos. Goals from Solomon Aliyu and Peter Asuquo secured the win for the Lagos-based side, overcoming an early strike from Timothy Zacheaus of Inter Lagos.

The final group games on Wednesday will determine the four teams that will earn promotion to the NPFL.
