Former Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has set the internet abuzz after revealing he recently underwent surgery at the Princess Grace Hospital in the United Kingdom.
The 37-year-old retired footballer, who was a key part of Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning team, shared updates from his hospital bed via Instagram stories, though he did not disclose the specifics of the surgery, leaving fans concerned and curious about his condition.
Mikel, a former Chelsea star who spent over a decade at Stamford Bridge, participated in a Soccer Aid charity match on Sunday, where he likely sustained the injury that necessitated the surgery.
Mikel retired from professional football two years ago at the age of 35, expressing satisfaction with his achievements over a nearly two-decade-long career.
During his illustrious tenure in London, he won numerous titles, including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, the English Premier League twice, and the Emirates FA Cup four times.
Internationally, he won the AFCON with the Super Eagles in 2013 under coach Stephen Keshi and secured a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro under Samson Siasia.
As Mikel embarks on his recovery journey, fans and well-wishers eagerly await updates on his condition and details of his recent medical procedure.
