Borno  government rewards El-Kanemi Warriors for historic Federation Cup triumph

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club has been awarded N35.2 million by the Borno State Government in appreciation of their remarkable victory in the 2024 President Federation Cup.

The Maiduguri based team made history by beating fellow NPFL outfit, Abia Warriors 2-0 in the final.

The victory ended a 32-year wait for the prestigious trophy to return to Borno.

The cash award was presented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, on behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, during a ceremony in the Secretary to the State Government (SSG’s) office.

Each player received a stipend of N1 million (one million Naira).

El-Kanemi Warriors also received a N50 million (fifty million Naira) cash prize for their Federation Cup triumph.

Commissioner of Sports, Hon. Sainna Buba, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the financial support and recommended Babagana Kalli for the position of Special Adviser on Sports, emphasizing his extensive experience in the field.

Technical Adviser Coach Aliyu Zubairu praised the state government for its continued commitment to enhancing sports in Borno and urged the prompt release of funds to ensure the team’s smooth travel for matches across the country.

The Borno state based team alongside Enyimba FC will represent Nigeria at the second tier, CAF Confederation Cup.
