2024 CHAN Qualifiers: Time and where to watch Ghana vs Nigeria

Nigeria’s home-based national football team, the CHAN Eagles, will face off against Ghana in the first leg of their CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) final qualifier this Sunday, December 22nd.

Assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has selected his 18-man squad and will lead the charge as the Super Eagles take on Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The second leg will take place on Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The winner over the two legs will secure a spot in the 8th African Nations Championship, scheduled to take place in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda from February 1–28, 2025.

The two teams have a fierce rivalry, with Nigeria recently enjoying success against Ghana. In the past ten months, the Super Eagles defeated the Black Stars 2-1 in a friendly match in Marrakech, Morocco.

Additionally, Nigeria’s U17 team triumphed 3-2 over Ghana in the WAFU B U17 Championship, and the Flying Eagles also beat the Black Satellites 3-1 to defend their WAFU B U20 Championship title in October.

Although the CHAN Eagles have failed to qualify for the competition on four occasions (2009, 2011, 2021, and 2023), they have had notable performances, including a bronze medal in South Africa in 2014 and a silver medal in Morocco in 2018.

The first leg of the CHAN qualifier will kick off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time (4 p.m. Ghanaian time) at the Accra Sports Stadium. The match will be streamed live on NFF TV and the GFA YouTube channel.

CAF has appointed officials from Togo to oversee the match, with Aklesso Gnama serving as the center referee, and Jonathan Ahonto Koffi, Wassiou Tchamolla Ourotou, and Kossi Fabrice Senyo as assistant referees.

Ivan Gator Brown from Liberia will serve as the match commissioner, and Hugues Alain Adjovi from Benin will assess the referees.
