NWFL Premiership: Vera Samuel opens up on Bayelsa Queens’ indomitable form

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

With an unbeaten record going into the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership mid-season break, Bayelsa Queens is one of the four teams without a loss after seven games.

One of the team players, Vera Samuel, has attributed the team’s performance to determination.

The former Royal Queens, Delta Queens, and Edo Queens player, while reflecting on Wednesday’s 3-1 win over FC Robo Queens in Lagos, affirmed that the league season has not been as easy as the results they have gathered so far.

“Yesterday’s game was tough, but with hard work and contribution, we were able to come out victorious,” She posited.

“The team has been spectacular from the beginning of the season and performances have been great.

“The reason behind our performance has always been hard work, dedication, and determination. Everyone puts in lots of effort.”

After tasting continental football with Edo Queens at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, Samuel hopes to replicate the same experience with Prosperity Girls.

“My goal and targets still stand (CAF). It’s very much achievable with the path we are on.

“My performances this season have been amazing and improving because I learn every day. As the first round comes to an end my target is to work more on improving my shooting.

“Before the season started, we had targets, and our target was to win the NWFL and CAF unbeaten. it still stands.” She concluded.

Samuel has scored two goals in seven league games so far for Bayelsa Queens as she hopes to continue her good form with Ogbonda Whyte’s side when the league resumes on March 19, 2025.
