WCQ 2026: Upbeat Amavubi land in Uyo, begin training ahead of Super Eagles clash

By Dayo Awoniyi

Rwanda’s national team, the Amavubi, wasted no time after touching down in Uyo on Tuesday evening, resuming training immediately in preparation for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Head coach Torsten Spittler oversaw the squad’s first session on Wednesday morning at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, putting his players through fitness drills, tactical shape work, and light ball sessions designed to sharpen their edge ahead of Friday’s encounter.

With no injury concerns in camp, Spittler enjoys the luxury of a fully fit squad, and the players looked motivated and focused as they embraced the challenge of facing Nigeria’s star-studded lineup.

Rwanda, who started their qualifying campaign on a positive note, are keen to sustain momentum and have promised not to be overawed by either the Super Eagles or the electric atmosphere expected in Uyo.

As the countdown intensifies, the East Africans are scheduled to step up their preparations in the coming days, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling contest under the floodlights on Friday night.
