Dr. Christian Emeruwa leads CAF’s Nationwide safety training ahead of AFCON 2025

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Ahead of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), in collaboration with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), has launched a nationwide safety and security training program aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of all six host cities.

The initiative, which began on November 7 and runs until November 14, is designed to align Morocco’s preparations with CAF’s stringent standards and international best practices. Dr. Christian Emeruwa, CAF’s Head of Safety and Security, emphasized that the success of AFCON 2025 will depend not just on the quality of football but on the robust safety measures in place to protect everyone involved.

“The success of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 rests not only with the brilliance of the football on the pitch but on the invisible strength of safety and security behind every match,” Dr. Emeruwa said. “This dedicated training for the host city Safety and Security Commanders marks another milestone in our collective commitment to protect the game, its people, and its passion.”

He also expressed appreciation to Morocco’s Ministry of Interior for its exceptional facilitation of the program, as well as to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the LOC for their unwavering support. He particularly lauded the professionalism and cooperation of the host city commanders and members of the Safety and Security Pilotage Committees, whose efforts form the backbone of a safe and successful AFCON.

The comprehensive training program focuses on equipping participants with a clear understanding of CAF’s safety and security requirements. It also includes a platform for the LOC Security Commission to present its Security Concept and engage in vital discussions with CAF officials.

Key security personnel involved in the training include stadium safety officers, police and gendarmerie units, fire brigades, airport and traffic security teams, and other auxiliary forces. The aim is to ensure a coordinated, seamless approach to safety and security in the lead-up to the highly anticipated tournament.

With Morocco preparing to host the continent’s premier football event, these efforts underscore the importance of creating a secure environment for players, officials, and fans, ensuring that AFCON 2025 will be remembered not only for its footballing excellence but for its commitment to safety and professionalism.
