Manu Garba urges Golden Eaglets coach to conduct MRI test early

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Former coach of Nigeria U17 national team, Manu Garba has been advised current manager Nduka Ugbade to perform the Magnetic Resonance Test (MRI) very early when the team resumes camp.
MRI test is conducted to get the approximate age of players that will be participating in the U-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and Garba feels the MRI test will quick enough to give an approximate age to avoid age cheats.
“Within a week or two after the resumption of camp, the coach should conduct the MRI test to know the eligible players for the tournament,” Garba told Brila FM.
“It’s important for each country to conduct its MRI test before the competition when another test will be conducted.”
Ugbade recently said his biggest headache at this point is the MRI test that would indeed confirm if the players are truly U-17, having invited 48 players to camp in Nigeria’s federal capital ahead of preparation for the tournament.
The invitees, which include most of the bunch that won the WAFU B U17 Championship in the Ghanaian city of Cape Coast last summer, have been told to report to Abuja on Friday, 20th January 2023.
The Africa U17 Cup of Nations has been scheduled for Algeria from the 8th – the 30th of April. The four top-placed teams will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at the FIFA U17 World Cup finals that will be staged in Peru from 10th November – 2nd December.
