Nigeria defender, William Troost-Ekong says it was a difficult choice for him to leave Watford because he felt invested at the club.
Troost-Ekong found game time hard to come by at Watford and this influenced his decision to join Serie A side, Salernitana.
The Super Eagles skipper told The Athletic that he took the hardest choice in his career to move forward.
“This was the hardest choice I’ve had to make in my career,” Troost-Ekong told The Athletic.
“Every time I’ve had a great opportunity to go to a club, which was a progression in my career, it’s always been a no-brainer.
“But it was a difficult choice because I feel invested at Watford and I wanted to be part of the squad again to get promoted, I know what that felt like.”
Troost-Ekong made his return to the Italian Serie A on a winning note as he debuted for Salernitana against Lecce as they won the game 2-1.
Salernitana occupy the 14th position on the Serie A table with 21 points from 20 games and will face Juventus who are two points ahead of them on the seventh of February 2023 at the 37,800 capacity Arechi Stadium in Salerno.
