Calvin Bassey reveals frustration at Ajax after torrid start to life in Dutch football

Nigeria international Calvin Bassey has finally spoken out about his frustration after being demoted to the bench at Ajax and how he found his way back.
Ajax signed Bassey from Glasgow Rangers but his arrival coincided with a torrid start to the season under Alfred Schreuder who replaced Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag at the club.
Under former coach Alfred Schreuder, Bassey was a regular starter but was relegated to the reserve bench when Heitinga took over and the new manager had allowed him space to raise his game.
Bassey made the starting XI after his Man of the match performance in Ajax’s win over NEC Nijmegen and has continued his rich vein of form with a decent show in a 4-2 win over Heerenven.
Despite his resurgent, the Super Eagles admitted feeling frustrated with the situation and confessed he has been studying video footage with assistant coach Dwight Lodeweges to identify areas for improvement.
“Of course, there is a little bit of frustration. But sometimes you just have to sit down and learn,” Bassey told local tabloid, De Telegraaf.
“Then you can realize what your game is missing. That’s what the manager also said: look at how Edson Alvarez and Jurriën Timber do when they are central on the left.”
