‘A bad luck for us’ – Jose Peseiro defends Nigeria players in shock Guinea Bissau loss
By Wale Mustapha
Head Coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, Jose Peseiro has attributed bad luck for his team’s disappointing 1-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifier 2023 on Friday in Abuja.
The wasteful Super Eagles suffered their first defeat in the qualifying series no thanks to a first half goal from Mama Balde that handed the Wild Dogs their first ever win in history over the Nigerians.
Disappointed the Portuguese tactician called for calm from Nigerians, stressing Guinea Bissau loss was just a blip, while expressing confidence in the quality in his Super Eagles set-up and chance of producing positive results.
“Its a bad day for us, I’m not happy with the result just like my team,” Peseiro told media.
“Its painful when you play like that and create many scoring opportunities and lose, but sometimes football is like that.
“It’s a very good luck for Guinea-Bissau and a very bad luck for us. Congratulations to Guinea-Bissau, they defended well to protect the goal.
“I believe we can get a win, if we repeat the same performance how we played today, I believe one team cannot have bad luck every time, if we create chances like we did today, we can score up to three goals in Guinea.”
