NWFL Premiership: Delta Queens winning debut excites Sandra Johnosi
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Sandra Johnosi is excited about her Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership debut for Delta Queens following Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Heartland Queens at the Asaba Township Stadium.
The defender joined Delta Queens from Rivers Angels in 2022 but was unable to play the first stanza due to registration issues. However, she finally made her debut against Heartland Queens and provided the assist for Mercy Omokwo’s second goal.
Following her first official appearance, the former Adamawa Queens defender sees her winning debut as a good omen for the table-topping Delta Queens.
“It was my first game of the season which I started on a good note. It has always been a dream for me to start a match and be able to give my best.” Johnosi told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“It was the will of God for me to start the match against Heartland Queens. I don’t force anything in my life as I keep everything as the way God wants it to be for me. I really want to appreciate the entire team of Delta Queens because it has been a good experience since I joined the team from Rivers Angels.
“The team has been a good family with good experience playing from defence to attack which was a good one for me. It has given me more exposure in the game. I appreciate the assist that I gave on my debut because, without the effort of my teammates, I won’t be able to achieve that as well as the coaching crew which has given us the best.”
Omokwo had given Tosan Blankson’s side a two-goal lead before Favour Dagogo pulled a goal back for Obi Ogbala’s side in the 60th minute before the former completed her treble three minutes later.
And Johnosi has backed her side to go all the way for the NWFL Premiership crown at the Super Six and subsequently represent Nigeria at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
“The win was a good one for us as a team. Our target now is the Super Six because we have picked the ticket. We intend to go for the Super Six and show the world that we are not just putting our best during the season,” she added,
“We are going to the Super Six to prove to the world that our efforts during the season is worthwhile. We hope that at the end of the season, we will represent Nigeria at the CAF Champions League and do our best.”
Johnosi was part of the Adamawa Queens side that qualified for the NWFL Premiership Super Four in 2019. She joined Rivers Angels for the 2021/2022 season where the team finished third at the Super Six in Benin City behind Champions, Bayelsa Queens, and Nasarawa Amazons.
She, will now hope to win her first ever domestic silverware by inspiring Delta to the title this season.
