Cote d’Ivoire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations get official kick-off date

The Confederation of African Football, has announced that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated for Cote d’Ivoire has officially gotten kickoff date.

Only 24 nations will make it to the 2023 AFCON competition in Ivory Coast, which will take place from January to February 2024, with the opening match to take place on Saturday, 13 January 2024 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, the four-week tournament will officially conclude on 11 February 2024.

The tournament returns to Cote d’Ivoire for the second time after first being held there in 1984, where Cameroon emerged as winners for the first time.

As we draw closer to the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers, the 34th edition of the tournament is gradually taking shape as the world gears up for Africa’s biggest football spectacle.

Meanwhile, six out of the forty-eight countries in the qualifying round have secured their place in the competition joining hosts, Cote d’Ivoire. They are Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, and African champions, Senegal.

The remaining AFCON qualifying fixtures will take place from 28 March 2023, 12-20 June 2023 and 4-12 September 2023, to complete the 24-nation slot.

CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba also confirmed that the Final Draw of the tournament will be held in September 2023. The date and venue will be confirmed in due course.

With the rapidly growing global interest in CAF competitions recorded in the last few months, CAF is projecting record global TV audiences and stadium attendances for next year’s edition of its flagship competition, which also currently holds the record of being Africa’s biggest event.
