Rivers United end CAF Confederation Cup group campaign with ASEC Mimosas defeat

Nigerian Premier Football League champions River United wrapped up their group stage campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-0 defeat to Asec Mimosas of Cote D’Ivoire in Yamoussokro on Sunday.
Both sides had already guaranteed their quarter final places in the continent’s second tier club tourney before the Sunday’s encounter, with Moffosse Karidoula’s fourth minute strike sealing the group win for the Ivorian side.
Despite a spirited second half performance from Stanley Eguma’s men, there were no further goals scored which condemned the NPFL champions to their second defeat in the group stage.
The win means that ASEC avenged their 3-0 defeat to Rivers United in Uyo, in their second game week of the competition.
ASEC Mimosas also finish as winners of group B with 13 points while the Rivers United settled for second place with 10 points.
Meanwhile, the draw for the quarter-finals will hold on Wednesday, April 5, in Cairo – Media City, Egypt.
