Imo Strikers Queens crowned Sheroes Cup champions

Imo Strikers Queens have emerged as the champions of the Sheroes Cup after they pipped fellow rivals, Dannaz FC Ladies 1-0 in the final match in Abuja on Friday.

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship side, overcame rivals from the second-tier NWFL Championship and third-tier NWFL Nationwide League to emerge overall winners.

Oparanmegwa Pattra’s second half solitary effort was all the Strikers to seal the triumph for the maiden Soccer Queens Cup winners.

To reach the final, Strikers defeated another Championship side, Delta Babes 2-1 in the semi-final thanks to Harmony Achifula’s brace to reach the final while Dannaz FC Ladies saw off Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens to reach the final.

Imo Strikers Queens’ Miracle Ezeka was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Earlier, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens pipped Delta Babes 1-0 courtesy of Olanrenwaju Olamide’s second-half goal to win the third-place match.

The teams that participated in the tournament will now shift focus to the NWFL Championship and Nationwide League with promotion to the top cadre of the league in sight.

Delta Queens which sealed a place in the Super Six of 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership defeated Edo Queens on penalties to win the Premiership version of the Sheroes Cup in Abuja last year.
