Macleans Chinonyerem bags brace as Lokomotiv Moscow upend Rubin Kazan

Nigeria forward, Macleans Chinonyerem scored two goals for Lokomotiv Moscow as the team earned a 3-0 win over Rubin Kazan in the Russian Women’s topflight encounter on Friday.

The former Bonbruichanka striker who has scored in all but two of Lokomotiv Moscow’s games this season opened the scoring for her side in the 49th minute after a goalless first half at the RZD Arena, Moscow.

Tatyana Morina’s shot was not well saved by Rubin’s goalkeeper with Macleans latching onto the rebound the score the first goal of the game.

For the second time in the game, Rubin Kazan hit the crossbar in the 55th minute as Cherkasova’s header hit the goal post.

Yana Sheina made it 2-0 for the host in the 64th minute to put the former Russian Champions in the driving seat.

From the penalty area, Yana delivered a beautiful shot that hit the crossbar and flew into the back of the net.

Macleans converted her second goal of the encounter in the 90th minute to seal the victory after she directed an overhead kick into the far corner.

The brace increased Macleans’ goal tally to eight goals after eight league games as she played full 90 minutes for the team during the encounter.

With her latest double, the 23-year-old Nigerian is presently the top goal scorer in the Russian Supreme Division Women league with eight goals, two goals ahead of CSKA Moscow’s defender, Nevena Damjanovic.

The 2021/22 Polish Ekstraliga top goal scorer has scored half of Lokomotiv Moscow’s 16 goals in the league this season.

Lokomotiv Moscow occupy the third position on the log with 21 points after eight games and they will next face Chertanovo on May 13 in its next league encounter.
