International FC emerge Taiwo Awoniyi’s ‘Never Stop Dreaming’ Tourney champions

International FC emerged inaugural champions of the Never Stop Dreaming Football Tournament sponsored by Super Eagles’ striker, Taiwo Awoniyi after defeating Stallion FC 5-3 on penalties.
It was all glitz and glamour on Saturday as football lovers and supporters trooped out en masse to grace the final match that ended 1-1 in regulation time before the shootouts.
26 teams from Ilorin and its environs participated at the week long tournament decided at the Sheikh Abdulquadri College, where Awoniyi was discovered by his youth team coach.
The winners of the tournament, International FC were presented with a cheque of N1 million naira while the second placed team got N700, 000.
There were also individual awards including the most valuable player, highest goal scorer and best goalkeeper to outstanding participants.
However, it was a mixed reaction for Awoniyi who broke into tears while giving his remarks as he reflected on his sojourn to greatness in football.
“Thank you everyone, I am lost of words, being here again in this position and looking through my journey of life in football, it all started from here, I just want to appreciate everyone for your support,” an elated Awoniyi who had all his family members present at the event said.
Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji commended Awoniyi for the initiative which he said has brought joy to many.
He urged all footballers not to stop dreaming for greatness in their pursuit for a successful career, adding that the Nottingham forest Striker is now inspiration to many young Nigerians.
