Nigeria legend, Stella Mbachu has advised the country’s players to play according to coaches instructions when they engage England in the knockout stage of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Monday.
The Super Falcons will take on the English in a mouth-watering Round of 16 clash in Brisbane and the former international urges the Nigerians should consider themselves as a top side that shouldn’t be outshined on the pitch.
“No team that made it to the World Cup is lower than any team that have equally earned their spot. I recall my team and I defeated England in a friendly match,” Mbachu told Sporting Life.
“So if we could definitely, they can as long as they play as a team and most importantly play according to the coaches’ instruction they can defeat England.”
The ex international added that the Falcons shouldn’t be terrified but stand their ground against the Three Lionesses as she believes Nigeria have what it takes to defeat England.
“They need to build their confidence psychologically, opponents can sense when a team is terrified, England is no small fry but they’re definitely not a big deal.”
“These girls have shown they have what it takes, and I can see that they really want to do well in this tournament and I pray they exceed their own expectations.”
Nigeria will be facing England who had a perfect run in the group stage for a place in the last 8.
