Women’s World Cup Round of 16: Nigeria were better than us, says Mary Earps
By Saheed Afolabi
England captain, Mary Earps says Nigeria were the better side after their Round of 16 victory at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brisbane on Monday.
Despite playing with ten players for the latter stages of the game against the Super Falcons, the Three Lionesses were able to win through the penalty shootout.
And Three Lionesses skipper was glad they had the result that took them to the next round, stressing that she couldn’t fathom what went wrong with her English side.
“Obviously just happy we got the job done in the end and onto the next one,” Earps was quoted by Complete Sports.
“I think all wins are significant and obviously you’re trying to get as far in the competition as possible. Nigeria played really, really well and I don’t think we were at our best.
“We went down to 10 and it was a tough, tough game for us but I’m buzzing we got the job done.”
England will face Colombia in the quarter final of the World Cup.
