Nigeria’s Onyi Echegini and her Florida State University (FSU) emerged as winners of Atlantic Cast Conference (ACC) Regular season championship on Friday.
FSU thrashed NC State 5-0 in the final game of the regular season to secure the coveted collegiate title.
A hat-trick from Lauren Flynn lifted the team to a comfortable win, with her first and second goals coming in the 43rd and 48th minute respectively before Leilanni Nsbeth made it 3-0 in the 49th minute.
Flynn completed her hat trick before the end of the second half while Olivia Garcia completed the rout with the fifth goal of the encounter.
Flynn is the first FSU player to record a hat trick since teammate Onyi Echegini on September 16, 2022, against Boston College.
The team ended the regular season unbeaten and second-highest goal scored in ACC history after netting 36 goals, one shy of North Carolina’s 37 goals in 2007.
They will enter next week’s ACC Tournaments as top seed to face the winner of the match between North Carolina and Pittsburgh University in the semi final.
