By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has declared his Ballon d’Or ambitions, admitting that winning the prestigious prize is a goal he hopes to achieve soon.
The 24-year-old led Napoli to their first league title in 33 years last season. Besides winning the Scudetto, the Nigerian striker also won the award for best forward in Serie A, as well as the Capocannoniere (Italian Golden Boot), smashing George Weah’s long-standing African goal record and claimed the Serie A top scorer title scoring 26 goals and providing five assists for Napoli.
He was nominated for the Ballon d’Or for the first time to become the first Nigerian to be nominated for the prestigious prize, twenty-four years after Nwankwo Kanu in 1999, a year that saw Papilo take home his second African Footballer of the Year award.
Although not expected to win the prize this year, the former Lille star, however admitted his desire to lift it in the narest future.
“For me, already being a player at this level is a dream,” he said, per GetFootballNewsItaly.
“If it [Ballon d’Or] were to arrive, it would be fantastic, but it’s not an obsession. I feel very comfortable in Naples. Scoring is always a thrill, more so doing it at the Maradona.”
