Obi Mikel eyes Super Eagles coaching role ahead of Afcon and World Cup

The former Nigeria international and captain, John Mikel Obi has indicated interest in the coaching role of the national team.
The former Chelsea player announced his decision to quit professional football in 2022 amidst injury worries.
Mikel said he’s fascinated about the idea of getting involved in the backroom role of the Super Eagles and he’s ready to contribute to their success starting with the AFCON.
“Getting involve in a backroom role is something I think, I will love. The transformation from the pitch to the technical bench is something that fascinates me and if the opportunity comes from Nigeria, I will be open to help play a part in the success of the team,” Mikel was quoted by Own Goal Nigeria.
Mikel represented Nigeria through the U17, U20, U23 level before making his way to the Super Eagles where he raked in 91 appearances before he called it quits at the international level in 2019 to end a 14 years spell with the national team.
The 35 year old starred in two World Cup finals, four AFCON tournaments and was part of the squad that won the 2013 edition in South Africa.
