Super Falcons to Feature in WAFU B Four-Nation Tournament Ahead of WAFCON 2026

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, will participate in the West African Football Union (WAFU B) Four-Nation Tournament as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that the preparatory tournament will be held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from 27 February to 7 March 2026. The competition comes just weeks before the start of the WAFCON finals, scheduled to run from 17 March to 3 April 2026.

NFF Director of Competitions, Ruth David, disclosed that the reigning African champions accepted an invitation from the WAFU B Secretariat to take part in the mini-tournament, which will feature four West African teams that have all qualified for WAFCON 2026.

The participating nations are hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal.

According to David, the tournament is designed to provide high-level competitive exposure for the teams as they fine-tune their preparations for the continental showpiece in Morocco.

“The Super Falcons have formally confirmed their participation in the WAFU B Four-Nation Tournament, which will serve as an important build-up competition ahead of WAFCON,” she said.

She also revealed that preparations are already underway on the technical side, with the squad list nearing completion.

“The list of players submitted by head coach Justin Madugu has been forwarded to the NFF technical department and will be released through the appropriate channels in the coming days,” David added.

Nigeria will head into the tournament as defending African champions, using the matches in Abidjan to assess form, build cohesion and sharpen tactical readiness ahead of their title defence in Morocco.
