‘A call to serve’ – Fidelis Ilechukwu on appointment as Super Eagles assistant coach

Rangers International FC Head Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has reacted to his appointment as one of the assistant coaches of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team.

Interim manager of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen has selected Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars to assist him plot the downfall of the carCheetahs of Benin Republic and the Amavubi of Rwanda in the Super Eagles’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches this month.

Ilechukwu led Rangers to the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title ahead of Ogunmodede’s Remo Stars which finished second.

He also qualified MFM FC and Plateau United, his former club sides for continental football.

The same can be said about Ogunmodede who coached the Sky Blue Stars to back-to-back CAF Champions League qualification.

“A call to serve Nigeria and opportunity for more hard work and we will never take this for granted,” Ilechukwu posted on his X handle.

Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede will be joined in Uyo by Tomaz Zorec, a fitness trainer from Slovenia, goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa and match analyst, Eboboritse Uwejamomere.

The task ahead for the new coaches is to assist Eguavoen thinker the Super Eagles to victory against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the first two games of the the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.
