As part of the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, a memorable moment of respect and fraternity unfolded in Lomé between Togolese goalkeeper Gloria Amégnétou and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie.
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, before the Super Falcons’ clash with Benin, there was a setting for a scene filled with emotion and symbolism.
During the Super Falcons’ stay in Lomé, Gloria Amégnétou paid a surprise visit to Chiamaka Nnadozie, star goalkeeper for Paris FC and one of Africa’s finest shot-stoppers.
Amégnétou presented Nnadozie with a custom painting capturing one of her most iconic moments on the pitch — a heartfelt tribute to the Nigerian’s inspiring career, professionalism, and leadership.
The symbolic gesture, delivered with grace and sincerity, reflected not only personal admiration but also the unity and pride shared among African women footballers.
Deeply moved, Nnadozie warmly thanked her Togolese counterpart and commended her for the initiative.
Beyond the gift, the meeting turned into a rich and meaningful exchange. Nnadozie offered words of encouragement to Amégnétou, urging her to stay focused, keep believing in her potential, and continue representing Togo with pride and determination.
“Meeting Chiamaka is a dream come true,” said Amégnétou. “She has inspired me greatly with her career, and her words encourage me to redouble my efforts to achieve my goals.”
This heartwarming encounter in Lomé is a shining example of the solidarity, respect, and sisterhood that increasingly define women’s football across Africa.
Beyond competition and rivalries, gestures like these show a shared vision — one where African women footballers uplift one another, promote unity, and continue to inspire the next generation through excellence and mutual respect.
